We recommend keeping the BitBox02 firmware up to date in order to have the latest features and security updates.
The BitBox02 firmware is bundled into the BitBoxApp which means that in order to upgrade your BitBox02 firmware, you need the latest version of the BitBoxApp. This will work on desktop as well as the mobile app.
The BitBoxApp will show you a pop-up notification if there is a new version available. Please install the latest BitBoxApp and proceed by clicking the upgrade firmware button in the BitBoxApp which will be shown for urgent firmware updates.
For non-urgent firmware updates, you can install the firmware through the advanced settings by following the steps outlined below:
- Once you have downloaded and installed the latest BitBoxApp, go to "Manage Device" and click "Upgrade" in the Firmware section.
- You will then see a pop-up showing you the firmware update details. Click "Upgrade".
- You will be asked to confirm that you want to upgrade the firmware on the BitBox02 itself. Confirm on the device.
- After you confirmed on your BitBox02 click the "Upgrade firmware now" button in the BitBoxApp.
You will see a status bar from 0% to 100% in the BitBoxApp and on your BitBox02. Once the firmware upgrade is done, you will have to enter the device password on your BitBox02 in order to unlock it as usual. Done!
