Electrum is a well-known, advanced Bitcoin-only software wallet. It offers powerful features like coin control and the ability to create watch-only wallets, giving you more control over your transactions. When paired with your BitBox02, you get the best of both worlds: Electrum's advanced features and the hardware security of the BitBox02, which ensures your private keys never leave your device.

This guide will show you how to securely connect your BitBox02 to Electrum.

Before you begin:

  • Please ensure your BitBox02 is fully set up and updated to the latest firmware using the BitBoxApp, and have the device ready to connect and unlock when prompted for secure actions.
  • The latest version of Electrum must be installed. For your security, only download it from the official website (https://electrum.org).

The BitBoxApp must be completely closed before you open Electrum, as only one application can connect to the device at a time.

Step-by-step connection guide:

  1. Open the Electrum application, give your wallet a name, and click Next.
  1. Select Standard wallet when prompted.
  1. On the Keystore screen, choose Use a hardware device.

Important: Ensure the BitBoxApp is closed.

  1. Connect your BitBox02. If needed, click Rescan devices until your BitBox02 appears, then click Next.
  1. Enter your device password on the BitBox02 to unlock it.
  2. If prompted, compare and confirm the secure pairing code on your BitBox02.
  1. For the address type, we recommend choosing native segwit (p2wpkh).
  1. To finish, select Encrypt wallet file using hardware wallet device and click Finish.
