BitBoxBridge is a lightweight background service that connects your BitBox02 hardware wallet to compatible third-party wallets and web applications. It’s required when using browsers like Firefox or Safari or desktop apps such as Rabby or Sparrow Wallet.
Important: You don’t need BitBoxBridge if you use the BitBoxApp or access web apps through Google Chrome or Brave, as these browsers support direct communication with the BitBox02.
Step-by-Step installation guide
1. Download BitBoxBridge
- Visit the official BitBox download page: https://bitbox.swiss/download/
- Scroll down to the BitBoxBridge section and select the installer that matches your operating system.
- Ensure you download the latest version.
2. Install BitBoxBridge

Windows: Double-click the
.exe
file and follow the on-screen instructions. -
macOS: Open the
.pkg
file and proceed with the installation prompts. -
Linux:

Debian/Ubuntu: Install the
.deb
package using your package manager. -
Fedora: Use the
.rpm
package for installation. - AppImage: Make the AppImage executable and run it directly.

- After installation, BitBoxBridge will run in the background, ready to facilitate connections between your BitBox02 and supported web wallets.
3. How to check if BitBoxBridge is running
To verify that BitBoxBridge is running correctly:
- Open your browser
- Go to this address: http://127.0.0.1:8178
- If everything is working, you’ll see a status page confirming the service is active
If the page doesn’t load, try restarting BitBoxBridge manually or re-installing it.
