Sending Bitcoin to yourself is useful for UTXO management, consolidation, or simply moving funds to a fresh address.

With the BitBoxApp, this can now be done directly from the Send flow — without manually generating and verifying a receive address first.

This article explains how it works and what to check before confirming the transaction.

How sending to yourself works

When you send Bitcoin to one of your own accounts, the BitBoxApp automatically selects the next unused receive address of that account.

Address verification happens during the sending process, directly on your BitBox02.

💡 Good to know
You no longer need to open the Receive tab to generate and verify an address first.
Everything happens securely inside the Send flow.

Step-by-step: Send Bitcoin to yourself

  1. Open the BitBoxApp.
  2. Connect and unlock your BitBox02.
  3. In the left sidebar, select the account you want to send from.
  4. In the selected account, click Send.
  1. In the Enter address field, click Select account.
  1. Choose the account you want to send to:
    1. This can be the same account (for example, for UTXO consolidation).
    2. Or a different account shown in the sidebar.
  1. When selecting one of your own accounts, the next unused address of that account is inserted automatically.
    1. Enter the amount you want to send.
    2. Select the transaction priority (fee level).
  2. Review the transaction details and click Review to verify and confirm the transaction on your BitBox02.

What you will see during review and confirmation

In the review screen of the BitBoxApp:

  • The destination is shown as the account name and account number (for example, Account #2).
  • This indicates that the transaction is being sent to one of your own accounts.

On the BitBox02 display, you will see:

The amount in BTC

  • The destination shown as:
    • This BitBox (same account): bc1q…, or
    • This BitBox (account #2): bc1q…

⚠️ Important
Always verify that the account name and address shown on the BitBox02 match what you see in the BitBoxApp before confirming.

  • After the first confirmation, the BitBox02 shows the total amount and the transaction fee.
  • After the final confirmation, the transaction is signed by your BitBox02 and broadcast to the Bitcoin network.

Fees and network confirmation

Even when sending Bitcoin to yourself:

  • The transaction is a normal on-chain Bitcoin transaction.
  • Mining fees apply, depending on the selected priority.
  • The transaction must be confirmed by the Bitcoin network.

Sending to yourself does not avoid transaction fees.

When is sending to yourself useful?

Sending Bitcoin to yourself can be helpful when you want to:

  • Consolidate multiple UTXOs into one
  • Improve privacy by moving funds to a fresh address
  • Organize funds across different accounts
  • Prepare UTXOs for future transactions

For example, it can make sense to consolidate UTXOs that are located on reused addresses and move them to a newly generated address:

For advanced UTXO management, you still need Coin control.
