In this article, you’ll learn to safely send Ether and ERC‑20 tokens via MyEtherWallet with your BitBox02 hardware wallet.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A BitBox02 hardware wallet set up with the BitBoxApp and firmware updated.
- The BitBoxBridge installed if you’re not using Chrome, Edge, or Brave; this lets your BitBox02 communicate with web wallets such as MyEtherWallet.
- A MyEtherWallet account and a small amount of ETH in your wallet to cover gas fees, since Ether is the native cryptocurrency used to power transactions on Ethereum.
- Your BitBox02 connected via USB or bridge and unlocked, with the correct Ethereum address selected.
Step 1: Connect your BitBox02
- Go to myetherwallet.com and click Access my wallet.
- Choose Hardware → BitBox02, then enter your device password when prompted.
- Select the Ethereum address you wish to use; this will be your sending address on MEW.
Step 2: Navigate to send transaction
- In the left‑hand menu of your MEW dashboard, click Send Transaction (or find Send → Send Transaction).
- This opens the transaction form where you’ll specify which asset to send.
Step 3: Enter transaction details
- Select whether you’re sending ETH or an ERC‑20 token; you can search the drop‑down list for your token .
- Enter the amount you wish to send.
- Paste or type the recipient’s address; always double‑ and triple‑check this address, as funds sent incorrectly cannot be recovered.
- If you want to send your entire ETH balance, click MAX to auto‑calculate gas from your total.
Step 4: Adjust fees and advanced options
- Under Transaction fee settings, choose your speed (Low, Medium, High) to adjust gas price accordingly.
- Click Advanced to manually edit Gas limit and Add data only if you’re an expert; incorrect values can cause failures or stuck transactions.
- For more on how gas works, see the What is Gas article.
Step 5: Review and confirm
- Click Next to review your transaction details.
- On your BitBox02 display, verify the address, amount, and fees; confirm on the device or abort if anything looks off.
Step 6: finalize and verify
- Once you confirm, MEW broadcasts your transaction. You’ll see a confirmation with your transaction hash—copy it for your records.
- To ensure your transfer completed successfully, paste the hash into Etherscan (etherscan.io) and check its status.
