The BitBoxBridge for web wallets

The BitBoxBridge is a small background application that lets your BitBox02 communicate securely with third-party web wallets like MyEtherWallet and Rabby. It acts as a secure link, ensuring your private keys never leave the hardware wallet while you interact with web-based services.

You can download the BitBoxBridge from the official [BitBox download page]. For more details on how it works, please visit our Knowledge Base: What is the BitBoxBridge?

Frequently asked questions

How does the BitBox02 work with external wallets?

When you use your BitBox02 with any third-party wallet, the core security principle remains the same: your seed or recovery words are securely stored on the BitBox02 and never leave the device. The connection goes through the BitBox, and you must confirm all critical actions, such as sending transactions, directly on the device's screen.

You should never enter your seed or recovery words into any wallet software, website, or computer. Your seed is your master key; only the BitBox02 should handle it.

Is the BitBox02 compatible with MetaMask?

Currently, MetaMask is not directly compatible with the BitBox02. MetaMask is updating its hardware wallet integration system and has temporarily paused new integrations, including support for the BitBox02. We are closely monitoring their progress and are prepared to integrate promptly once they resume accepting submissions.

You can securely interact with decentralized applications (DApps) using the following alternatives, which fully support the BitBox02:

  • Rabby Wallet is an open-source, non-custodial crypto wallet designed for Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains. It features enhanced security like pre-transaction risk scanning and offers a seamless multi-chain experience that automatically switches networks based on the DApp you are using.
  • MyEtherWallet (MEW): Accessing Ethereum and ERC-20 Tokens. MEW is a popular web-based wallet that supports hardware wallet integration with the BitBox02 for managing your Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens securely.
