Together with our Partner Pocket Bitcoin and an innovative security feature, selling your bitcoin directly from the BitBoxApp is both easy and secure. This guide will show you step-by-step how to make your first bitcoin sale in the BitBoxApp.
Prerequisites
Before getting started, make sure you have used Pocket Bitcoin in the past to buy bitcoin at least once, either through the BitBoxApp or directly through them. The amount does not matter, as this is only necessary to verify your bank account with Pocket.
No additional KYC verification is required as long as you don't exceed the daily limit of 950 EUR per day.
Selling bitcoin
To get started, click “Buy & sell” in the sidebar of the BitBoxApp and choose the Bitcoin account you want to sell from and click “Next”. Keep the total balance of the account you choose in mind, as you cannot sell from multiple accounts at the same time.
Next, select “Sell” and choose your current region in the drop-down menu. In this example, this would be “Germany”. As Pocket is currently the only partner you can sell bitcoin with, select it and click “Next”.
Note that Pocket Bitcoin is only available in the European Union (EU) and Switzerland. If your country is not supported, you will receive an error message here.
You will now see the purple selling menu from Pocket Bitcoin opening up. Read the initial information and hit “Continue”.
In the next step, you're asked to share your email address. Use the email address you previously used with Pocket to buy bitcoin and click “Continue”. You might have to verify the login with a code sent to your email address at this point.
Now, you can choose the actual amount you would like to sell, either in EUR/CHF or BTC. Enter your desired amount and click “Continue”. Don't worry, no sale is actually confirmed until you verify and confirm it directly on your BitBox02 at the very end.
Pocket will now ask for your bank account details, i.e. where you want to receive the exchanged money after the Bitcoin transcation has confirmed. You might have to enter this information manually, or simply select from previously used bank accounts like shown in the image below. Click “Continue” again.
Almost done! All relevant information about your sale draft is now shown again. If everything looks good to you, accept the terms of service by clicking the switch and click “Get payment details”. Again, this is not a final confirmation yet, as we still have to verify the sale directly on the BitBox02.
Pocket Bitcoin will now send a digitally signed payment request to your BitBox02. A third party cannot read or manipulate this payment request without the BitBox02 noticing.
On your BitBox02, the verification is similar to a regular bitcoin transaction, with a few adjustments:
- You do not have to verify the actual Bitcoin address from Pocket. The BitBox02 does this independently, directly showing you the recipient “POCKET” on its display, together with the amount.
- A memo will follow, showing your IBAN you provided to Pocket. This allows you to verify that Pocket has received the correct banking details.
If you verified the transaction details are correct, hold to confirm the transcation on your BitBox02 and you're all set! The Bitcoin transaction will be sent and once it has received three confirmations on the blockchain, Pocket will send you the exchanged amount to your bank account.
In ideal conditions and if your bank supports SEPA instant payments, the entire process, from signing the transaction to the money arriving in your bank account might only take 30 minutes.
Congrats! You sold bitcoin through the BitBoxApp. If you encounter any issues, feel free to contact our customer support team!
