Selling Bitcoin bought elsewhere
Selling bitcoin that you previously bought through Pocket Bitcoin is usually the easiest option. In this case, Pocket Bitcoin can normally associate the sale with your verified account, purchase history, and bank account information.
You do not necessarily need to sell only bitcoin that was originally bought through Pocket Bitcoin. However, if the bitcoin was bought through another broker, exchange, or provider, Pocket Bitcoin may request additional proof-of-origin or source-of-funds documents before the sale can be processed.
Source-of-funds review
Bitcoin bought outside Pocket Bitcoin may require additional document review. This can include proof of where the bitcoin was purchased, bank statements for the original fiat payment, or documents showing how the originally invested funds were generated.
Because these documents must be reviewed first, selling bitcoin bought elsewhere can take longer. For the simplest selling process, it is usually recommended to sell bitcoin that was originally bought through Pocket Bitcoin.
If Pocket Bitcoin asks you to provide additional documents, you can upload them through the Pocket Bitcoin source-of-funds portal.
UTXO clarification
The bitcoin does not need to come from the same address or UTXO originally used when buying through Pocket Bitcoin. What matters is whether Pocket Bitcoin can verify the purchase history and proof of origin for the bitcoin amount you want to sell.

Verifying the sale on the BitBox02
Pocket Bitcoin uses signed payment requests so your BitBox02 can verify the payout details before you confirm the transaction. Learn more about secure exchange withdrawals using signed payment requests.
This verification helps protect against transaction manipulation by showing the important sale details directly on your BitBox02.
On your BitBox02, verify:
- the recipient shown as POCKET,
- the bitcoin amount,
- your IBAN,
- and the transaction fees.
Security verification
Only confirm the sale if the bitcoin amount, recipient shown as “POCKET”, IBAN, and fees are correct on your BitBox02.
