To check your balance without connecting your BitBox each time, enable Remember wallet in the BitBoxApp. You can then open the app to view your account balances, check incoming transactions and review your transaction history.

Remember wallet gives you a watch-only view of the accounts secured by your BitBox hardware wallet. It remembers public wallet information without importing your private keys. To send funds from these accounts, you still need to connect and unlock the BitBox and confirm the transaction on its screen.

Enable Remember wallet

Start with a BitBox that is already set up and an up-to-date BitBoxApp. Enable the feature in each BitBoxApp installation where you want to check the wallet without connecting your hardware. This leaves viewing access available without unlocking your BitBox, so choose a computer or phone you trust.

Protect your financial privacy

Remember wallet is off by default. If you enable it, someone who can access your BitBoxApp may be able to see your balances and transaction history without unlocking your BitBox. Use it only on a computer or phone you trust, and protect access with your operating system's account or screen lock. On Android and iOS, you can also enable Screen lock under Settings → Advanced settings in the BitBoxApp.

  1. Open the BitBoxApp, connect your BitBox and unlock it by entering the device password on the BitBox itself. If you use an optional passphrase, open the intended passphrase wallet on the device before continuing.
  2. In the BitBoxApp, open Settings, then select Manage accounts. Your accounts are grouped by wallet.
  3. Find the wallet you want to remember. Check the wallet name and the accounts listed beneath it so you enable the setting for the intended wallet.
  4. Turn on Remember wallet beside that wallet's name. If the Wallet remembered message appears, select OK to close it.

The Remember wallet toggle applies to the wallet group. The account and wallet names shown here are examples.

Check your balance without your BitBox

Disconnect your BitBox, then select one of that wallet's accounts in the BitBoxApp. Its balance and transaction history should remain available. The remembered accounts also appear when you close and reopen the app without connecting the BitBox.

Keep the app connected to the internet and allow it to finish loading account activity when checking for new transactions. If the accounts disappear after disconnecting, reconnect and unlock the intended wallet, then check its Remember wallet setting under Settings → Manage accounts.

If the intended accounts still disappear with the setting enabled, contact BitBox Support with your operating system, BitBoxApp version and any exact error message. Do not include wallet secrets or private account information.

Funds can arrive at an existing receiving address whether or not your BitBox is connected, and whether or not Remember wallet is enabled. To display and securely verify a receiving address in the BitBoxApp, connect your BitBox and compare the complete address with the one shown on its screen before using it.

Use Remember wallet with multiple wallets

The BitBoxApp can remember more than one wallet, including wallets from different BitBox devices and separate optional-passphrase wallets. Each wallet has its own Remember wallet setting; the accounts beneath it belong to that wallet.

Connect and unlock each wallet you want to remember, then enable its setting separately. When a wallet is connected and unlocked, the green connection indicator beside its name identifies it. In Manage accounts, the same indicator is labelled Connected wallet. Other remembered wallets can remain visible without being unlocked for signing.

Turn off Remember wallet

Turning off Remember wallet stops the app from showing that wallet's accounts without the corresponding BitBox connected and unlocked. It does not move or delete your funds.

  1. Open Settings → Manage accounts and find the wallet you no longer want the app to remember.
  2. Turn off Remember wallet beside its name. The Disable remember wallet dialog explains that you will need the BitBox to see the wallet again.
  3. Select Confirm. If that wallet is still connected and unlocked, disconnect the BitBox to check that its accounts are no longer displayed.

To see those accounts again, connect and unlock the BitBox for that wallet, including the same optional passphrase if you use one. You can then enable Remember wallet again whenever you want.

If you want to monitor a Bitcoin account in another application instead, follow the separate guide to creating a watch-only wallet in Sparrow Wallet.
