This guide walks you through purchasing Bitcoin (BTC) using PocketBTC within the BitBoxApp.
01 Getting started with PocketBTC
- In the BitBoxApp, navigate to Buy & Sell in the left sidebar.
- Select the BitBox02 account you wish to use.

- Choose your region.

Note: PocketBTC is not available in all countries. This guide uses Switzerland as an example.
- Click on Pocket to begin the process with PocketBTC.
- If you'd like to understand more about how PocketBTC works, click "How does it work?". Otherwise, to start your purchase, click Set up now.

02 Email verification
- You'll be prompted to enter your email address. Provide your email and click Continue.

- A new window titled "Confirm your email address" will appear. Check your email for a message from Pocket and enter the verification code provided.

Tip: If you don't see the email in your inbox, please check your spam or junk folder.
03 Setting up your purchase
- After successful email confirmation, the "Buy bitcoin" screen will appear.
- Choose your order type:
-
One-time: For a single Bitcoin purchase.
-
Recurring: To set up regular, automated Bitcoin purchases.
- This guide will proceed with a "One-time" purchase.
-
One-time: For a single Bitcoin purchase.
- Enter the currency (e.g., EUR, CHF) and the amount you wish to spend.
04 Bank details and address verification
- You'll be directed to the "Share your bank account" screen. Enter your IBAN (International Bank Account Number) and click Continue.

- Next, you need to verify a receiving Bitcoin address using your BitBox02:
- The BitBoxApp will prompt you to interact with your connected BitBox02.
- On your BitBox02 screen, confirm that the coin is Bitcoin.
- A Bitcoin address from your wallet (it will typically start with bc1q...) will be displayed on the BitBox02 screen.
- Carefully verify this entire address on your BitBox02. You can scroll through the full address by swiping the touch sensors on the downside of the device.
- Confirm the address on the BitBox02 itself. Follow the instructions on the BitBox02 screen, which usually involves holding both touch sensors on its sides.
- Another message appears on your BitBox02 asking you to confirm this address specifically for the Pocket order. Follow the device prompts to confirm.
- The chosen Bitcoin address will then be displayed in the BitBoxApp.
- Crucially, double-check that this address in the BitBoxApp perfectly matches the address you just verified on your BitBox02 screen.

05 Choosing address sharing option
You will now have an option regarding how your Bitcoin address is shared with Pocket:
- Share entire account (Recommended for privacy): If you choose this, Pocket can generate new receiving addresses from your account for future recurring buys or if needed, enhancing your privacy. Each payment will go to a fresh address. You can read more about why Pocket recommends this on their FAQ
- Share single address: Only the single Bitcoin address you just verified will be used for this purchase and any subsequent purchases linked to this specific order.
From here on, this guide will proceed with "Share entire account":
- Click Share now (or your preferred option).

- If you choose to share the entire account, the BitBoxApp shows a notice: "The transaction history of this account is not empty. Sharing this account will make all its past and future transactions visible for Pocket. Proceed anyway?" Review this information and confirm if you wish to proceed.

- After confirmation, the BitBoxApp displays the next few addresses from your account, including the single address you initially verified (this will still be the next address used for the current order).

- You can typically go back at this stage if you change your mind and prefer to share only the single address.
- Click Continue.
06 Final address confirmation
- A "Confirmation email sent" message will appear in the BitBoxApp.

- Check your email inbox for a message from Pocket, usually titled "Verify bitcoin address."
- Click the confirmation button or link within that email. A new browser window will open, likely asking, “What does your BitBox02 show?”

- The BitBoxApp should now display a prompt like: "Verify address on BitBox02."

- Once more, carefully verify the address displayed on your BitBox02 screen.
- If the address is correct, confirm it directly on the BitBox02 device by following its on-screen prompts.
07 Reviewing your order
- The BitBoxApp may ask "Confirmed successfully?". Confirm if you have completed the device confirmation.

- The BitBoxApp will then display the "Review your order" screen.

- Carefully check all the details: the amount, your receiving address, and Pocket's terms.
- If you have a referral code for Pocket, you can usually enter it at this stage.
- Activate the slider to agree: "I accept the complete terms which are summarized here." Click Confirm.

08 Making the bank transfer
- The "Make bank transfer" window (or similar) will open in the BitBoxApp, showing Pocket's bank details for your transfer.
- One tab will typically display the payment details (beneficiary, IBAN, bank name).
- Another tab may provide a QR code containing these details for easy import into your banking app.

CRITICAL: You must include the unique payment message (sometimes called "memo" or "reference") with your bank transfer. This reference is essential for Pocket to correctly allocate your payment to your order.
- Don't worry about copying everything immediately. You will also receive an email from Pocket (often titled "Your order is ready" or similar) containing all the necessary payment details, including the crucial payment reference.
- In the BitBoxApp, once you have noted the details, click the button Done.
- You have now completed the setup process in the BitBoxApp. The final step is to make the bank transfer from your bank account.
- Log in to your banking app or online banking portal. Carefully enter Pocket's bank details and ensure you include the unique payment reference provided. Initiate the transfer.
09 After the transfer: What to expect
- Be patient: Bank transfers, especially international ones, can take time to process. The speed depends on your bank, the type of transfer (e.g., SEPA, SWIFT), and whether it's a weekday or weekend/holiday. Some banks may only process transfers on business days.
- Confirmation email: Once Pocket receives and successfully allocates your bank transfer, they will send you a confirmation email, often titled "Your bitcoin are being paid out."
- This email will typically include:
- The amount of BTC (usually shown in satoshis) you purchased.
- The date and the fiat market value at which your funds were converted to BTC.
- An estimated timeframe for when your Bitcoin will be paid out to your address.
Payout process: PocketBTC often processes payouts in batches. This means there might be a delay between their confirmation and the Bitcoin actually being sent to your BitBox02 wallet. The email might state that payouts are executed by a certain time (e.g., 10 PM CET). Please note this is the time of dispatch from Pocket, not necessarily the time of arrival in your wallet, which also depends on Bitcoin network confirmation times.
You have now successfully set up a Bitcoin purchase via PocketBTC using your BitBoxApp and BitBox02!
