Coin control lets you restrict a Bitcoin payment to particular outputs in the selected BitBoxApp account. You can also inspect those outputs without sending. Each row in the panel represents one unspent transaction output (UTXO), an amount from an earlier transaction that is available to spend.
Enabling the setting alone does not restrict a payment’s inputs: you must select outputs. For the reasons and trade-offs, see what coin control is and when to use it.
Before you start
Make sure you are working with the intended wallet and Bitcoin account. Have its BitBox hardware wallet ready to connect and unlock when you want to sign a payment. If Remember Wallet is already enabled, you can view the outputs without connecting the device; sending still requires the hardware wallet.
For a payment, decide on the destination address or your own destination account, and how much to send. If a service requires a particular source address or output, follow its exact conditions. A Satoshi test has additional requirements covered in the Satoshi-test guide.
Enable coin control
- In the BitBoxApp, open Settings in the sidebar.
- Select Advanced settings and turn on Enable coin control.
The setting adds the coin-control option to the account’s send screen. If it is already on, continue below. The screenshots show the English desktop interface.

Prepare a payment with coin control
Step 1: Open the outputs panel for the correct account
Select the intended Bitcoin account in the sidebar and select Send. On the right side of the send form, select Coin control. The Send from output panel opens and lists available outputs from that account. You do not need to enter a recipient or amount to view it.
If the option is missing, check that Enable coin control is on and that you have opened Send for a Bitcoin account.

Step 2: Identify the outputs you want to use
Use the information in each row to identify the intended funds. An address may have several outputs, so use the outpoint if you need one particular UTXO.
Coin control shows available outputs, rather than a complete history of your account’s addresses. To find previously used addresses—including those with no remaining UTXOs—see how to view used addresses in the BitBoxApp.
| Field or indicator | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Bitcoin amount and unit | The value of this output. Check the displayed unit: BTC and satoshis are different units. |
| Fiat value | An estimate in your selected currency. It changes with the exchange rate; the output’s Bitcoin amount stays the same. |
| Transaction note, if present | Context you have recorded for the transaction. Use it as an aid, alongside the address and outpoint. |
| Date | The block date of the transaction that created this output, or Pending if it is unconfirmed. A change output’s date is not the original purchase date of your bitcoin. |
| Address | The address associated with this output. Compare the full address when a particular source is required. |
| Outpoint | The creating transaction’s ID followed by its output index, such as transaction-id:0. Together they identify this particular output. |
| Address-type heading | The group the output belongs to, such as Native Segwit or Taproot. It does not identify the source or purpose of the funds. |
| Change | An output associated with a change address in your account, usually representing bitcoin returned to your wallet from an earlier payment. |
| Address re-used | A warning that the address has been reused, which can make transactions easier to associate. Absence of the tag does not establish anonymity. |
If you want to inspect the creating transaction, select the external-link icon at the right of the row, shaped like an arrow leaving a square. It opens that transaction in the account’s configured blockchain explorer, where you can compare its outputs and confirmation state. Opening an external explorer shares the requested transaction with that service.

If you only wanted to view the outputs, you can stop here without preparing or authorizing a payment.
Step 3: Select the outputs allowed for this payment
Select the checkbox at the left of each row you want the app to be allowed to spend. Leave unrelated outputs unchecked. If your aim is to use one particular output, select only that row.
Check which histories you are willing to connect. Outputs actually spent together become linked in the public transaction. Select only funds you are willing to associate before continuing; broadcasting that transaction exposes the link even before confirmation.
Select Continue to return to the send form. If at least one output is selected, the checkbox above the Bitcoin amount field reads Send selected coins. If it says Send all, no manual output restriction is active. Reopen Coin control and check your selection before proceeding.
Step 4: Set the destination, amount, and fee
For a payment to an external address, enter it in Receiver address. For a transfer within your BitBox wallet, use Select account in that field. Choose the same Bitcoin account to consolidate selected UTXOs, or another Bitcoin account to move funds between your own accounts. The BitBoxApp fills in an unused receiving address automatically. See Send Bitcoin to yourself in the BitBoxApp for the self-transfer steps and required checks on your BitBox.
With the destination set, choose how much to send from your selection:
| Your intention | What to do | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Send a fixed amount | Leave Send selected coins unchecked and enter the recipient amount in the Bitcoin amount field. Match the displayed unit exactly. | The app uses enough of the selected outputs to cover the payment and fee; some selected outputs may remain unused. A remainder from the inputs spent may return as change. |
| Send the selected value | Check Send selected coins above the Bitcoin amount field. | The payment spends the full selected set, minus the network fee, without returning a change output. Review the calculated recipient amount. |
With no outputs selected, Send all sends the available value of the current account minus the fee. It applies to that account, not every account in your wallet.
Choose the fee priority under Priority and check the calculated network fee, including for a self-transfer. Each input actually used is spent in full. Any change returns as a new output in your account, at a change address chosen automatically by the app. A remainder too small to create a usable change output can be added to the fee instead.
If the selected value is insufficient, the app will not prepare a valid payment. Review the amount and fee, then select another suitable output only if it meets your source requirements. Do not add unrelated funds just to remove the error.
Step 5: Review the payment and confirm it on your BitBox
Before selecting Review, recheck the sending account, destination, amount and unit, fee, and your output selection. When prompted, connect and unlock the hardware wallet for this account. The app’s confirmation view includes Selected coins when a manual selection is active; compare the listed addresses and outpoints with your intended selection.
Verify the recipient address, amount, and fee on the BitBox hardware-wallet display. For a self-transfer, also check the destination account indicated on the device. Confirm only if the details match your intended payment. If anything is unexpected or unclear, reject the transaction and check the details again.
Recognize the result
After successful sending, the BitBoxApp displays The transaction has been signed and sent. Select Done to return to the account and check the transaction in its history. Sending and blockchain confirmation are different states; a newly sent transaction can still be pending.
Any output actually spent will no longer be available. Unused outputs remain, and a new change output may appear after a fixed-amount payment. If you prepare another payment, check its selection again instead of assuming the previous selection still applies.
If the app reports that the transaction may still go through, check the account’s transaction history before sending again. Repeating a payment while its broadcast result is uncertain can pay the recipient twice.
Return to automatic selection
To return to unrestricted automatic selection for a payment, clear every selected checkbox in the panel and select Continue. The amount-field checkbox then reads Send all. Leave that checkbox unchecked if you want to enter a fixed amount.
For future use, you can turn off Enable coin control under Settings → Advanced settings. Clear an existing selection before hiding the control, and check the payment’s selection state again before review.
If an expected output is missing
Check that you opened the correct wallet and Bitcoin account, and wait for account synchronization to finish. An incoming payment from another wallet must confirm before its output becomes available.
If an expected confirmed output is still missing, or coin control does not work as described, contact BitBox Support with the BitBoxApp version, hardware model, and the exact error or unexpected behavior. Share only information needed for the investigation; never share recovery words, wallet backups, passwords, passphrases, or private keys.
