This guide will show you how to securely send Ethereum (ETH) and supported ERC20 tokens from your BitBox02 using the BitBoxApp. We will cover preparing the transaction on your computer and safely verifying it on your hardware wallet.

Before you start

  • Your BitBox02 is already set up. If not, please follow our setup guide first: Set up your BitBox02
  • You have enough Ethereum in your account to cover both the transaction amount and the network fee (gas).

How to send Ethereum

The process begins in the BitBoxApp on your computer and finishes with a final, secure confirmation on your BitBox02.

Prepare the transaction in the BitBoxApp

  1. Open the BitBoxApp and connect your BitBox02.
  2. Unlock your BitBox02 by entering your device password.
  3. In the left sidebar, select the Ethereum account you wish to send from.
  1. Click the Send button.
  1. In the "Send Ethereum" window, enter the recipient's address and the amount you want to send.
  2. Choose a transaction Priority. The network fee is calculated automatically based on your selection.
  3. Click the Review button to proceed.

Verify and sign on the BitBox02

This is the most critical security step. The screen on your BitBox02 is your source of truth.

  1. A confirmation screen will appear on your BitBox02.
  2. Carefully verify that all transaction details, especially the recipient address and amount, shown on the BitBox02 display are correct.
  3. If everything matches your intentions, confirm and digitally sign the transaction on your BitBox02.
  4. Your transaction is now sent to the Ethereum network.

Note on custom fees

If you want to set a specific network fee instead of using the presets, you must first enable this option. Go to

Settings > Advanced settings and activate Enable custom fees.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I use this process to send ERC20 tokens like USDT?

Yes, the process for sending natively supported ERC20 tokens is identical.  Please note that you must have a sufficient ETH balance in the same account to pay for the network transaction fee (gas). All fees on the Ethereum network are paid in ETH, even when sending tokens. You can learn how to manage ERC20 tokens here: How to show supported ERC20 tokens in the BitBoxApp

How can I interact with other EVM networks or dApps?

To manage assets on other EVM-compatible networks or interact with decentralized applications, you can securely connect your BitBox02 to a compatible third-party wallet. Your private keys always remain safely stored on the BitBox02, and you will never need to enter your recovery words into another application.
