You can move funds from the BitBoxApp Lightning wallet to one of your on-chain BitBox Bitcoin accounts. Choose a normal withdrawal to keep using the Lightning wallet, or Close and Withdraw Funds to withdraw its complete remaining balance and close it.
Both paths involve a fee and depend on the integrated Spark infrastructure. After the withdrawal is broadcast, it also needs confirmation on the Bitcoin blockchain.
Choose the correct path
| What you want to do | Use |
|---|---|
| Move some funds to Bitcoin and keep this Lightning wallet | A normal on-chain withdrawal |
| Move the complete remaining balance to Bitcoin and end this Lightning wallet | Close and Withdraw Funds |
| Stop using the wallet temporarily without moving its balance | Disable the Lightning wallet |
Withdraw and keep the Lightning wallet
- Open Lightning in the BitBoxApp.
- Select Send.
- Select Enter address or invoice, then Select an account.
- Select the BitBox Bitcoin account that should receive the funds. The app uses that account's next unused address.
- Select Continue.
- Enter at least 294 satoshis (sats).
- Review the destination account, amount, Bitcoin network fee, and total deduction.
- Select Send only when every detail is correct.
If the destination wallet is remembered in the BitBoxApp, you do not need to connect the BitBox. Otherwise, connect and unlock it so the app can display its accounts. The BitBox does not sign this withdrawal because the funds are spent from the Lightning hot wallet.
Withdrawal created
The withdrawal is complete on the Lightning side when the BitBoxApp shows it as sent. It then appears in the receiving Bitcoin account, where its on-chain confirmation count updates.
Close the wallet and withdraw all funds
Closing is permanent. It sends the remaining balance to Bitcoin and ends this Lightning wallet. A closed wallet cannot be restored; enabling Lightning again later creates a new Lightning wallet.
- Open Settings.
- Open Advanced Settings.
- Select Lightning Settings.
- Select Close and Withdraw Funds.
- Select the BitBox Bitcoin account that should receive the remaining balance.
- Review the destination account, amount, fee, and closure warning.
- Select the checkbox confirming that you want to close the Lightning wallet.
- Select Close and Withdraw Funds.
- Wait until the BitBoxApp confirms both the withdrawal and wallet closure.
Stop receiving before closing
Wait for expected incoming payments to complete, then stop sharing invoices and the wallet's Lightning address. Incoming funds cannot be withdrawn while the wallet is closing.
Wallet closed
Closure is complete when the BitBoxApp confirms that the remaining funds were withdrawn and the Lightning wallet is closed. Track the resulting transaction in the receiving Bitcoin account until it is confirmed.
Understand the dependency on Spark
The BitBoxApp shows the applicable fee before confirmation. The amount available after fees may be lower than the displayed Lightning balance.
The current BitBoxApp does not support a unilateral exit. Withdrawing or closing therefore depends on Spark being online and cooperative. Your BitBox backup can recreate the wallet keys, but it cannot by itself force an exit during a Spark outage.
If the withdrawal does not complete
- The destination account is not listed: connect and unlock the relevant BitBox if its wallet is not remembered in the BitBoxApp.
- The amount is below 294 sats: increase it to at least the stated minimum.
- The balance does not cover the amount and fee: lower the amount or add sufficient Lightning balance.
- Incoming funds are pending: wait for them to complete before closing.
- Spark is unavailable: keep the wallet enabled and try again after service is restored.
- The withdrawal remains pending: check its transaction status before creating another attempt.
