This guide explains how to recover funds that were sent on the wrong EVM-compatible network using your BitBox02 with MyEtherWallet (MEW).

This can happen, for example, when:

  • ERC-20 tokens or other EVM assets are sent to your BitBox02 address on a network that is not natively supported in the BitBoxApp
  • funds are sent to the correct address, but on a different EVM network than expected
  • you cannot see your assets in the BitBoxApp even though the transaction was completed successfully

In many cases, your funds are not lost, as long as they were sent to your BitBox02 address on an EVM-compatible network.

Before you continue, check our overview of supported cryptocurrencies and networks for the BitBox02. This helps you understand which assets and networks are supported directly in the BitBoxApp and which ones require an external wallet such as MEW.

Why this happens

Ethereum and many EVM-compatible networks use the same address format.

This means:

  • your BitBox02 address can be the same across multiple EVM networks
  • but your assets exist separately on each network

If funds are sent on a different EVM network, they may not appear in the BitBoxApp or in MEW until the correct network is selected.

If you do not see your funds:

  • first check which network was used for the transaction
  • then make sure the same network is selected in MEW

When recovery is possible

You can usually recover your funds if:

  • the address is correct and belongs to your BitBox02
  • the funds were sent on an EVM-compatible network
  • the asset is accessible through MEW on that network

If funds were sent to the wrong address (not yours), recovery is not possible.

How to recover funds step by step

1. Identify the network used

Check where the transaction was sent from, such as:

  • your exchange withdrawal details
  • your wallet transaction history
  • a block explorer for the network that was used

Examples include:

  • Ethereum → Etherscan
  • Polygon → Polygonscan
  • BNB Smart Chain → BscScan
  • Arbitrum → Arbiscan
  • Optimism → Optimistic Etherscan

Confirm which network was used for the transaction before continuing.

2. Connect your BitBox02 to MyEtherWallet

If you need help with this, follow:
MyEtherWallet (MEW): how to connect your BitBox02

3. Switch to the correct network

In MEW, click the network selector in the top right.

Select the EVM network where your funds were sent.

After selecting the network, the page will reload and display balances for that network

4. View your funds

After the correct network is selected:

  • your balance should appear
  • supported tokens on that network should become visible

Keep in mind that the screenshot in this article only shows BNB Smart Chain as an example. The same principle applies to other supported EVM-compatible networks available in MEW.

5. Move your funds (optional)

Once you can access your funds, you can decide what to do next.

Depending on the asset and network, you may want to:

  • keep the funds on that network
  • send them back to an exchange
  • transfer them to another wallet
  • bridge them to a different EVM network

Using a bridge (optional)

If you want to move assets from one EVM network to another, you may need to use a bridge.

For more details, refer to the
Bridge assets between Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain

Bridging can involve additional fees, waiting times, and multiple confirmation steps. Always verify the selected network and destination address carefully before proceeding.

Important security reminder

Always verify the selected network before sending funds.

Sending funds on the wrong network is a common mistake, especially when working with ERC-20 tokens and other EVM assets outside the BitBoxApp’s native support.

Result

You have accessed your funds by selecting the correct EVM network in MyEtherWallet.

FAQ

Are my funds lost if I used the wrong network?

Not necessarily.

If the address is correct and the funds were sent on an EVM-compatible network, they are often still recoverable by selecting the correct network in MEW.

Why can’t I see my funds?

The BitBoxApp does not natively support every EVM network or token.

If your funds were sent on a network or token that is not natively supported, you may need to use MyEtherWallet to access them.

What if I sent funds to the wrong address?

If the destination address is not yours, recovery is not possible.

Blockchain transactions are irreversible.

Do I need my BitBox02 to recover funds?

Yes.

You need your BitBox02 to securely access and manage those funds in MEW.

Do I need to reconnect for each network?

No.

After connecting your BitBox02 in MEW, you can switch between supported EVM networks directly in the interface.

Can I prevent this mistake in the future?

Yes.
