BitBox02 Nova uses Bluetooth® Low Energy to communicate with the BitBoxApp on iPhone or iPad. If you have connection issues on other platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux or Android), please see the guide on troubleshooting USB connection issues. Please note that the BitBox02 Nova will automatically turn off Bluetooth if it receives data through USB, e.g. after you plug it into your laptop and open the BitBoxApp.

To use BitBox02 Nova with Bluetooth on iPhone or iPad, ensure Bluetooth is turned on and the BitBoxApp has permission to access the device's Bluetooth connectivity. You will see a prompt for the latter on first use, but can always check and adjust this setting in Settings > Apps > BitBoxApp > Bluetooth.

Connection issues

If the BitBox02 Nova…

  • does not appear in the device picker in the BitBoxApp after plugging it in
  • does not connect after you select the device from the list, even after waiting for 30 seconds

… please first try to restart the BitBoxApp by fully closing it through the multitasking menu and re-plugging the BitBox02 Nova. If you keep encountering the same issue, restart your iPhone or iPad by pressing the power and volume-up button at the same time.

In the unlikely event you are still having connection issues, it can help to redo the Bluetooth pairing of the BitBox02 Nova with your iPhone or iPad. To do so, simply head to the device's Bluetooth settings and press the small information button next to the BitBox device name and click “Forget This Device”, as shown in the images below.

When using the BitBox02 Nova the next time, the device should appear in the BitBoxApp and you will be prompted to pair the device again. Confirm the pairing code on your iPhone or iPad, and by tapping on the BitBox02 Nova. From here, the Bluetooth connection should be more reliable again. You can repeat this process as often as you like.

If you are using the BitBox02 Nova in an environment with many active Bluetooth devices, e.g. at a workshop with several other BitBox02 Nova devices in use, you may encounter an increase in Bluetooth connection issues, similar to a WiFi network that is used by a lot of people at the same time. In this scenario, it can also help to redo the Bluetooth pairing as described above.
