This guide is for users who have already enabled the optional passphrase feature on their BitBox02. Here you will learn how to access your different wallets and how to disable the feature if you no longer wish to use it.
Accessing your wallets
With the passphrase feature enabled, you can access either your standard wallet or any of your hidden, passphrase-protected wallets at any time.
Important: For security, the passphrase is only entered and verified on the BitBox02, never in the BitBoxApp or any other software.
How to access a hidden wallet
- Connect and unlock your BitBox02 with your device password.
- You will be prompted to enter a passphrase. Enter the specific passphrase for the desired wallet and confirm it directly on your BitBox02.
- After confirming on the device, the BitBoxApp will display the corresponding wallet.
How to access your standard wallet
Your standard wallet is the one derived only from your 24 recovery words.
- Connect and unlock your BitBox02 with your device password.
- When prompted on the BitBox02 to enter the passphrase, simply confirm the empty entry without typing anything.
- The BitBoxApp will then open your standard wallet.
Disable the optional passphrase feature
Disabling this feature simply turns off the passphrase prompt when you unlock your device. It does not delete any hidden wallets or the funds within them.
- Open the BitBoxApp and unlock your BitBox02. You can access any wallet (standard or hidden) to perform this action.
- Navigate to Settings in the left-hand sidebar and click on the Manage device tab.
- Scroll down to the Expert settings section and click on Passphrase.

- Click the button to Disable optional passphrase.
- Confirm the action on your BitBox02 device when prompted.
- The passphrase prompt will no longer appear when you unlock your device. You will only need to enter your device password.

Frequently asked questions
What happens to my hidden wallet if I disable the passphrase feature?
Your hidden wallet and the funds inside it remain perfectly safe on the blockchain, tied to your 24 recovery words plus that specific passphrase. Disabling the feature only removes the prompt. To access the hidden wallet again, you simply need to re-enable the feature and enter the correct passphrase.
What happens if I enter my passphrase with a typo?
Entering a passphrase with even a single incorrect character will cause the BitBox02 to generate a new, empty wallet. Do not panic; your funds are safe. Simply disconnect and reconnect your device, then enter the correct passphrase to access the correct wallet.
Can I have more than one hidden wallet?
Yes. Every unique passphrase you enter creates a new, separate hidden wallet. You can create as many as you need.
