The BitBoxApp includes a price widget for iPhone and iPad that allows you to monitor cryptocurrency prices directly from your home screen.

This article explains how to add the BitBoxApp widget on iOS, how asset selection works, and how to use the widget together with the BitBoxApp screen lock.

What is the BitBoxApp price widget?

The BitBoxApp price widget is a home screen widget for iOS devices that displays cryptocurrency market prices directly on your iPhone or iPad.

The widget includes:

  • the current exchange rate
  • a 24-hour price chart
  • support for multiple active assets
  • automatic currency synchronization with the BitBoxApp

This allows you to quickly monitor market movements without opening the BitBoxApp itself.

Before you begin

You need:

  • the BitBoxApp Geneva update or newer
  • an up-to-date iPhone or iPad
  • active accounts in the BitBoxApp for the assets you want to display

Previous BitBoxApp versions do not support the iOS widget feature.

Asset availability
The widget can only display natively supported assets that already have an active account in your BitBoxApp. For example, Ethereum prices only appear if you previously connected a BitBox02 Multi and enabled an Ethereum account.

Widget availability and Face ID

The BitBoxApp widget can only be added if iOS allows the widget to appear in the widget selection screen.

Face ID limitation
If the iOS option that requires Face ID specifically to open the BitBoxApp is enabled, the BitBoxApp widget will not appear in the iOS widget selection screen.

To use the BitBoxApp widget, first disable the iOS-level Face ID requirement for the BitBoxApp.

If you want to protect the BitBoxApp while still using the widget, use the built-in BitBoxApp screen lock instead of the iOS app-specific Face ID lock.

Recommended app protection
The built-in BitBoxApp screen lock protects access to the app while keeping the iOS widget available.

To enable the BitBoxApp screen lock:

  1. Open the BitBoxApp.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Open Advanced settings.
  4. Enable Screen lock.

This protects access to the BitBoxApp while keeping the iOS widget available.

Use this method if you want to add the widget directly from the BitBoxApp icon.

  1. Unlock your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Long-press the BitBoxApp icon on your home screen.
  1. Tap the widget icon displayed in the iOS edit menu.
  1. The BitBoxApp icon changes into the widget.

How to add the BitBoxApp widget from the home screen

Use this method if you want to add the widget from an empty area on your home screen.

  1. Unlock your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Long-press an empty area on your home screen until the app icons start to wiggle.
  3. Tap Edit in the upper-left corner.
  1. Tap Add Widget.
  1. Search for BitBoxApp.
  2. Select the BitBoxApp widget.
  1. Tap Add Widget.
  2. Place the widget on your home screen.
  3. Tap Done to save your changes.

How the widget selects currencies and assets

The widget automatically uses:

  • the default currency configured in your BitBoxApp
  • the currently active cryptocurrency accounts

For example:

  • if your default currency is EUR, prices are displayed in Euro
  • if Bitcoin and Ethereum accounts are active, you can switch between BTC and ETH charts

How to switch between Bitcoin and Ethereum charts

  1. Open your iPhone or iPad home screen.
  2. Locate the BitBoxApp widget.
  3. Tap the left or right arrows inside the widget to switch between supported cryptocurrencies.

Account requirement
Only cryptocurrencies with active accounts in your BitBoxApp can be displayed in the widget. If you only use Bitcoin accounts, only Bitcoin prices appear in the widget.

Supported currencies and accounts

The widget currently supports cryptocurrencies that are natively supported in the BitBoxApp.

Displayed assets depend on:

  • your active accounts
  • your BitBoxApp configuration
  • supported native cryptocurrencies

FAQ

Does the BitBoxApp widget support Android?

Not yet. We are actively working on bringing widgets to Android devices in a future BitBoxApp release.

Why can I only see Bitcoin in the widget?

You only see cryptocurrencies that are active in your BitBoxApp accounts. For example, Ethereum prices only appear after enabling an Ethereum account with a BitBox02 Multi.

Why can I not find the BitBoxApp widget on iOS?

If the iOS option that requires Face ID specifically for the BitBoxApp is enabled, the widget will not appear in the iOS widget selection screen. Disable the iOS-level Face ID requirement and use the built-in BitBoxApp screen lock instead.

Does the widget use the same currency as the BitBoxApp?

Yes. The widget automatically uses the default currency configured in your BitBoxApp.
