This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to securely generate and verify your receiving address for Ethereum (ETH) and all ERC20 tokens using the BitBoxApp and your BitBox02. Following this process is crucial to ensure your funds are sent to the correct address under your control.
One address for all your Ethereum assets
A key feature of the Ethereum network is that you use a single receiving address for your main ETH account and for all associated ERC20 tokens (like USDT, USDC, LINK, etc.). There is no need to generate a new address for each different token.
Steps to find your receiving address
- Open the BitBoxApp and unlock your BitBox02.
- Select your Ethereum account, or any of your activated ERC20 token sub-accounts, from the list on the left.

- Click the Receive button at the top of the account view.

- Read the security precautions, then click Show and verify address.

- The address will now be shown simultaneously in the BitBoxApp and on your BitBox02 device's screen.

The most important step: Verify on your device
Before sharing your address or sending funds to it, you must perform this critical security check:
- Carefully compare the full address shown on your computer or phone screen with the address displayed on your BitBox02 device screen.
- If they match exactly, press the confirm button on your BitBox02.
- The BitBoxApp will now show the address and a corresponding QR code, confirming it is correct and safe to use.
This on-device verification step protects you from malware on your computer that could try to switch the address and steal your funds. The BitBox02 screen is your source of truth.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why is the address the same for ETH and my tokens?
All ERC20 tokens exist on the Ethereum blockchain, so they share the same address system as ETH. Your BitBox02 secures the private key for that one address, giving you control over all the assets held within it.
Can I reuse a receiving address?
Yes. Unlike some other cryptocurrencies, a single Ethereum account has one permanent receiving address. Every time you click Receive for a specific account (or any of its token sub-accounts), the BitBoxApp will show you this same, static address. You can safely reuse this address for all deposits to this account. If you want a new address, you must create a completely new Ethereum account.
Why was the QR code hidden at first?
We hide the QR code until after you have physically confirmed the address on your BitBox02. This encourages the crucial habit of always verifying the address on the secure device screen, which is the only place you can be 100% sure the address is correct.
