Make Sure You Have Your Backup!
Caution: Resetting your BitBox02 deletes all data stored on it, including your private keys (your wallet). It is absolutely essential that you have a verified, working backup of your wallet before you initiate a factory reset.
- Without a valid backup, you will lose access to your coins forever!
- Ensure you know how to restore your wallet from your backup.
- If you used a BIP39 passphrase, ensure you have that recorded correctly as well, as it's needed alongside your seed phrase backup.

Resetting Your BitBox02
There are two primary methods to reset your BitBox02 to its original factory state:
Method 1: Reset with Multiple Failed Device Unlock Attempts
This method resets the device without needing the BitBoxApp settings menu.
- Connect your BitBox02 to your computer.
- When prompted for the device password, intentionally enter an incorrect password.
- Repeat this process. After the 10th incorrect password attempt, the BitBox02 will automatically perform a factory reset to protect its contents.
Method 2: Reset via the BitBoxApp
This method uses the BitBoxApp interface to initiate the reset.
- Open the BitBoxApp on your computer.
- Connect your BitBox02 hardware wallet.
- Unlock your BitBox02 by entering your device password.
- Once unlocked, navigate to the Settings section using the left-hand sidebar in the BitBoxApp.
- Within Settings, go to the Manage device tab.
- Scroll down to the Expert Settings section at the bottom.
- Locate and click on the Factory reset option. It is the last row.
- A confirmation window will appear in the BitBoxApp, warning you:
All data will be deleted from this device. That includes your Private Key!
- Carefully read the warning. Confirm that you have a valid backup by checking the relevant box. Also, ensure you have your passphrase if you used one.
- Click the red Factory reset device button.
- The BitBoxApp will display:
Please follow the instructions on your BitBox02.
- Look at your BitBox02 screen. To finalize the reset, you need to confirm the action directly on the device.
- Simultaneously touch the sensors on the top-left and top-right edges of the BitBox02 to bring the confirmation arrows together.
- Once confirmed on the device, the process is complete.
Finished! Your BitBox02 is now reset to factory settings and is ready to be set up again as a new device or stored securely.
