You can swap supported cryptocurrencies between accounts in your BitBox wallet through Marketplace > Swap > SwapKit in the BitBoxApp. Choose what to send and receive, review the quote, and confirm the outgoing transaction on your BitBox. This feature requires a Multi edition; Bitcoin-only editions do not support swaps.

SwapKit connects the app to external swap providers. You do not need to leave a balance on a centralized exchange, but the selected provider's protocol handles the conversion and payout. Your BitBox verifies the transaction you approve; it does not guarantee that the provider will complete the swap.

Before you begin

  • Install the latest BitBoxApp and BitBox firmware, then connect and unlock the Multi edition of your BitBox02 or BitBox02 Nova. If the app requests a firmware update before swapping, complete it first.
  • Have the cryptocurrency you want to send in an active account belonging to the connected BitBox, with enough funds to cover the outgoing network fee.
  • For an ERC20 token on Ethereum, have enough Ether (ETH) in the same Ethereum account to pay the network fee. The token balance itself cannot pay that fee.

Available assets and routes depend on your accounts and the providers available through the integration. A cryptocurrency supported by SwapKit elsewhere is not necessarily available in the BitBoxApp.

1. Open SwapKit

Using an external swap service has privacy consequences: blockchain transactions remain public, and SwapKit's privacy policy describes processing public wallet addresses and limited IP-address information, including general location data.

  1. In the BitBoxApp, select Marketplace in the sidebar, open the Swap tab, and select SwapKit.
  2. If the information screen appears, read the fees, slippage, security, provider, and data-protection information. Select Agree and continue if you accept it. The swap form opens.

2. Choose the accounts and amount

The swap form has a Send row and a Receive row. Each has an account selector on the left; the amount is on the right.

  1. Open the dropdown on the left of Send and choose the account and cryptocurrency you want to spend. Enter the amount on the right, checking the displayed unit, such as BTC or sat.
  2. Open the dropdown on the left of Receive and choose the cryptocurrency and account you want to receive into. The app calculates the estimated receive amount; you do not enter it yourself.
  3. Check both account selections. If an ERC20 token appears with different numbers, such as Chainlink, Chainlink 2, and Chainlink 3, these entries belong to different Ethereum accounts with different addresses. Choose the entry for your intended receiving account.

To reverse the direction, select the two-arrow button between Send and Receive, if available. Then check both accounts and the sending amount again before continuing.

3. Review the quote and costs

After you enter the amount, the app looks for a route: the provider or combination of providers that will carry out the swap. Review the following before selecting Swap:

  • The sending asset, account, and amount.
  • The receiving asset, account, and estimated amount.
  • The provider shown under Swap route. If several routes are available, open its dropdown to compare the offered receive amounts and select your route.

A flat fee of 1.5% applies to each swap. Network fees and provider-related costs can apply in addition. Read the current service information and check the network fee on the confirmation screen before approving. The exchange rate for the swap may differ from the rates used elsewhere in the BitBoxApp.

The receive amount is an estimate. Changes in market prices and liquidity during execution can affect the final amount, which may be lower. This difference is called slippage.

4. Verify and confirm on your BitBox

Select Swap to prepare the transaction. The app displays Confirm swap on BitBox, including the sending amount, network fee, and expected receive amount. Review those details, then follow the prompts on the hardware device.

Check before approving

Once the outgoing transaction is submitted, you cannot cancel it through the BitBoxApp. SwapKit and its providers are external services outside the BitBox security threat model. An authenticated request does not guarantee the quoted result or a refund.

  1. On the BitBox display, check the destination identification. The integration uses signed payment requests so the BitBox can authenticate the request and show SwapKit with the provider as the destination.
  2. Check the sending and receiving currencies and amounts on the device's Swap screen, and review the network fee as you continue through the prompts. If the destination, amounts, or any other detail is unexpected, reject the transaction on the device.
  3. Confirm on the BitBox only when the details are correct. The app then sends the outgoing transaction to the network.

This screen is in the app. Complete the transaction review on the BitBox itself; the amounts shown here are an example.

5. Check that the swapped asset arrives

The app may display Swap completed after successfully sending the outgoing transaction. This message alone does not mean the receiving asset has arrived. Select Done to open the receiving account and check its transaction history and balance.

The swap is complete when the incoming asset appears in the selected receiving account with the required blockchain confirmations. The time needed depends on the networks and route. If the provider cannot complete the conversion, its refund process applies; there is no single processing or refund time for every route.

If you cannot proceed or the asset has not arrived

  • No route or quote: check the selected assets and amount. If the app reports that it cannot fetch quotes, try again later. An asset pair or amount may not have an available route.
  • Insufficient funds or an ETH fee error: check the sending balance and network fee. For an ERC20 swap, check the ETH balance in that token's Ethereum account.
  • An error after confirmation, or an unresolved receipt: check the sending account's transaction history before starting another swap. If you are unsure whether the transaction was sent, do not repeat it until its status is clear.

If an error persists or the incoming asset remains missing, contact BitBox Support. Include the sending transaction ID if available, the asset pair and amount, the provider or route, the approximate time, your BitBoxApp and firmware versions, and the exact error message. These details help investigate the app flow and identify the relevant provider; they do not give BitBox control over an external swap or refund.

Never share recovery words, private keys, your device password, an optional passphrase, or wallet backup files with anyone helping you investigate a swap.
