The account details section in the BitBoxApp shows technical information about a specific account in your wallet. This includes the account format, keypath, script type, root fingerprint, extended public key, and wallet descriptor.
You may need this information when setting up a watch-only wallet, connecting to external wallet software, checking account compatibility, or verifying account details directly on your BitBox02.
Before you begin
Make sure you have:
- the latest version of the BitBoxApp installed
- access to the wallet you want to check
- your BitBox02 connected and unlocked, if the wallet is not available through Remember Wallet.
Remember Wallet
If your wallet was previously remembered in the BitBoxApp, you are able to view account information without connecting your BitBox02. If the wallet was not remembered, connect and unlock your BitBox02 first.
How to open account details
- Open the BitBoxApp.
- Connect and unlock your wallet if the watch-only feature is not active.
- In the left sidebar, select the account for which you want to view account details.
- Click Account info at the top of the account view.

- Click View account details.

- The BitBoxApp opens the account details window for the selected account.

What you can find in account details
The account details window always refers to the account you selected in the left sidebar. Each account has its own account details, including its own extended public key and descriptor.

For Bitcoin accounts, the displayed account format also matters. The same Bitcoin account can show Native SegWit account details by default and Taproot account details when you switch the account format.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Account format | The Bitcoin address format currently displayed, such as Native SegWit or Taproot. |
| Account name | The name you assigned to this account in the BitBoxApp. |
| Keypath | The derivation path used for this account. |
| Script type | The Bitcoin script type used by the account. |
| Root fingerprint | A short identifier of the wallet’s master key. |
| Coin | The cryptocurrency or network used by this account. |
| Extended public key | Public account information that can be used to derive addresses for the selected account and account format. |
| Descriptor | A standardized account description for the selected account and account format, including information such as the script type and derivation path. |
| QR codes | QR codes for the extended public key and descriptor. |
| Verify on device | A button to verify the account information directly on your BitBox02. |
Compatibility note
When importing account information into another wallet, use the descriptor whenever the external wallet supports it. A descriptor contains more complete account information than the extended public key alone.
Verify account details on your BitBox02
For additional security, you can verify account information directly on your BitBox02.
At the moment, the BitBox02 can verify the extended public key on the device screen.
- Open the account details window in the BitBoxApp.
- Click Verify on device.
- Check the information shown on your BitBox02.
- Confirm the information only if it matches what you see in the BitBoxApp.
Verification reminder
Always verify sensitive account information on your BitBox02 when possible. Your BitBox02 provides a trusted screen for checking wallet information independently from your computer.
Native SegWit, Taproot, and Wrapped SegWit
For Bitcoin accounts, the BitBoxApp can show account details for different Bitcoin address formats.
The account selected in the left sidebar can have more than one Bitcoin account format. For example, the same Bitcoin account can display Native SegWit account details and Taproot account details. Each format has its own extended public key and descriptor.
Native SegWit is the standard account format for most Bitcoin users. In the account details window, the BitBoxApp shows the Native SegWit account information by default.
If you need Taproot account information, switch to the Taproot account format in the account details window. The BitBoxApp then shows the Taproot-specific information, including the Taproot extended public key and Taproot descriptor.

Account format note
Native SegWit and Taproot account details are not interchangeable. When exporting account information to another wallet, make sure you use the extended public key or descriptor for the account format you actually want to import.
Wrapped SegWit is an older Bitcoin address format. To avoid accidental use of an increasingly outdated standard, the BitBoxApp no longer shows Wrapped SegWit in the account details window.
Existing Wrapped SegWit accounts continue to work. If you already used a Wrapped SegWit account, you can still access and manage it with compatible third-party wallet software.
Address format note
Native SegWit is the recommended default for most Bitcoin users. Use Taproot only if the wallet, service, or setup you want to connect to supports Taproot.
FAQ
Do I need to connect my BitBox02 to view account details?
If the wallet is remembered in the BitBoxApp, you are able to view account details without connecting your BitBox02. If the wallet is not remembered, connect and unlock your BitBox02 first.
What is the difference between the extended public key and the descriptor?
The extended public key allows external wallets to derive addresses for one account. A descriptor includes additional information, such as the script type and derivation path, which can improve compatibility when importing the account into other wallet software.
Can someone spend my funds with my extended public key?
No. An extended public key does not contain private keys and cannot be used to spend funds.
However, it can reveal account activity and addresses. For privacy reasons, you should only share an extended public key when you understand why it is needed.
Why should I verify account details on the BitBox02?
Verifying account details on the BitBox02 lets you check important information on the trusted screen of your hardware wallet instead of relying only on your computer.
Why do I not see Wrapped SegWit in account details?
Wrapped SegWit is an older Bitcoin address format. The BitBoxApp no longer shows Wrapped SegWit receiving addresses in the account details window to help avoid accidental use of an outdated standard.
Existing Wrapped SegWit accounts continue to work and can still be used with compatible third-party wallet software.
