This article explains which cryptocurrencies you can manage with your BitBox02 hardware wallet. It clarifies the difference between managing assets directly in the BitBoxApp and using a third-party wallet for extended support.

Before you start

Please ensure you know which edition of the hardware wallet you are using.

  • BitBox02 Multi: Supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Cardano, and thousands of tokens.
  • BitBox02 Bitcoin-only: Supports only Bitcoin for maximum security focus. This article primarily applies to the Multi edition.

How coin support works

The BitBox02 is designed for security and ease of use. To achieve this, support for different cryptocurrencies is handled in two primary ways: natively within our BitBoxApp, or through secure connections to approved third-party wallets.

Native in-app support

For the most popular cryptocurrencies, you can manage your assets directly in the BitBoxApp. This provides the most seamless and straightforward user experience. Native support includes:

  • Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Ethereum (ETH)
  • Litecoin (LTC)
  • A curated list of popular ERC20 tokens (such as USDT, USDC, LINK, and more) on the Ethereum network.

Extended support with third-party wallets

While the BitBox02 can secure thousands of different ERC20 tokens and assets on other EVM-compatible chains (like Polygon or Arbitrum), they are not all visible in the BitBoxApp by default.

To manage this wider range of assets, you can securely connect your BitBox02 to a trusted third-party wallet, such as Rabby or MyEtherWallet. When doing so, your private keys never leave the BitBox02, ensuring your funds remain safe. All transactions must still be confirmed on your BitBox02 device screen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't my token listed in the BitBoxApp?

We natively support the most established and widely used ERC20 tokens to ensure a simple and safe experience. For less common tokens, you can almost always manage them securely by connecting your BitBox02 to a compatible third-party wallet.

Is it safe to use a third-party wallet with my BitBox02?

Yes. The security of the BitBox02 is designed so that your private keys are never exposed, even when using other software. You will always be required to use the BitBox02 device itself to verify addresses and approve transactions, protecting you from threats on your computer.

Can I use my Ethereum address on other networks like Polygon?

Yes. Your Ethereum address, secured by your BitBox02, is the same across all EVM-compatible networks. To interact with these networks, you will need to use a compatible third-party wallet.
