Install or update the BitBoxApp on your iPhone or iPad through Apple’s App Store. You can do this before your BitBox arrives, without connecting a device. To use your hardware wallet afterward, you need a BitBox02 Nova; the original BitBox02 is not supported on iPhone or iPad.
Before you begin, check the BitBoxApp device and operating-system requirements to confirm that your iPhone or iPad is supported.
Installation never requires your recovery words
You do not need your microSD backup or recovery words to install or update the BitBoxApp. If an app, website, or person asks for recovery words during this process, stop. Never enter them on your iPhone or iPad: anyone who obtains them can access your funds.
Install or update the BitBoxApp
Use the official App Store listing and check the developer before downloading. You can update an existing installation without uninstalling it.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the official BitBoxApp listing in the App Store. Alternatively, open the App Store, select Search, and search for BitBoxApp.
- Check that the app is named BitBoxApp and the developer is Shift Crypto AG. If either differs, do not install it.

- Tap Get to install, or Update if an update is available. A cloud download icon may appear if you downloaded the app before. Follow Apple’s on-screen instructions to authorize the download. If the button already says Open, the app is installed and the listing is not offering an update.
- When the download finishes, tap Open. Installation or updating is complete when the BitBoxApp opens normally.
If automatic app updates are enabled, the App Store may update the BitBoxApp for you. If a download or update fails, follow Apple’s help for apps that won’t download or update.
Continue with your BitBox02 Nova
For first-time wallet setup, follow Set up your BitBox02 Nova on iPhone or iPad. That guide covers connecting and pairing the Nova, firmware installation if needed, and creating a wallet backup. Installing the app alone does not complete wallet setup.
