The BitBoxApp allows you to create multiple accounts for the same cryptocurrency to better organize your funds — for example “Savings”, “Daily spending”, or “Trading”.
All accounts belong to the same wallet and are protected by your existing recovery words.
You never need to create a new backup when adding an account.
Add a new account
- Open the BitBoxApp and connect your BitBox02.
- Unlock the device using your device password.
- Click Settings in the sidebar.
- Select Manage accounts.
- Click + Add account.

- Choose the cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, etc.).

- Enter a descriptive name (example: BTC Savings).
- Click Add account to confirm.
- Your new account now appears in the sidebar and is ready to use.

Every new account is automatically protected by your existing recovery words.
No additional backup is created or required.
Rename an account
- Go to Settings → Manage accounts
- Click Edit on the account

- Change the name
- Click Update
Account names are only labels inside the app and do not affect balances or transactions.
Hide (disable) an account
- Open Settings → Manage accounts
- Click Edit next to the account
- Turn off the account switch
- Click Update

The account disappears from the sidebar but remains part of your wallet.
Funds safety
Disabling an account does not delete it and does not affect your coins.
You can enable it again at any time.
Account limits
To protect wallet recovery and discovery performance, BitBox enforces limits on how many accounts can exist — especially for Bitcoin.
Bitcoin (BTC)
You can freely create the first 5 accounts.
To create additional accounts, the previous account must have a transaction history:
- To create the 6th account → the 5th account must have received funds at least once
- To create the 7th account → the 6th account must have transaction history
- This continues sequentially for every further account
This rule ensures accounts cannot be created infinitely without usage.
Security note
- The 100-account limit is enforced by the BitBox02 device (not the BitBoxApp).
- It prevents address-search abuse and extortion scenarios — for example forcing a victim to send funds to a very high-index account that would be extremely difficult to discover during normal wallet recovery.
Ethereum (ETH)
Up to 5 accounts can be created.
These limits never affect your funds — they only control how many unused accounts can exist at once.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a new backup after adding an account?
No. All accounts — past and future — are secured by the same recovery words.
Is the account stored on my computer?
No. The BitBoxApp only displays accounts derived from your wallet backup. Nothing sensitive is stored locally.
Can I rename accounts later?
Yes. Names are local labels and can be changed anytime.
Does hiding an account remove my coins?
No. The account is only hidden from view and can always be enabled again.
Why would I use multiple accounts?
They help organize funds (for example savings vs spending) while staying in the same wallet.
