You can receive sats in the mobile BitBoxApp using a reusable Lightning address or a single-use Lightning invoice. You do not need to top up the wallet on-chain before receiving a Lightning payment.

The BitBoxApp does not currently support LNURL-Withdraw payout requests. If a service provides a withdrawal QR code in this format, use its Lightning-address payout option instead, if available. For example, Satsback offers automatic payouts to your existing BitBoxApp Lightning address, without changing anything in the app.

These instructions assume your Lightning wallet is already active. If it is not, first set up a Lightning wallet.

Choose how to receive

Method When to use it
Lightning address Share a reusable, email-like address with a payer, or save it with a service that supports Lightning-address payouts.
Lightning invoice (BOLT 11) Request a specific amount for one payment, including a withdrawal from a service that asks you to provide an invoice.

Receive with your Lightning address

Your Lightning address can receive multiple payments. You can use the name generated for your wallet; choosing a custom name is optional.

  1. From the main dashboard's Portfolio, open Lightning and select Receive. The Receive Lightning screen shows your current Lightning address and its QR code.
  2. Select Copy beneath the address and share it with the payer, or let the payer scan the QR code with their Lightning wallet.

When the payment completes, it appears as received in the Lightning transaction history and your available balance updates.

Create an invoice

Use an invoice when a person, exchange, or service asks you for one. Supply a Lightning invoice rather than an on-chain Bitcoin address or Bitcoin receiving QR code: those use a different payment network.

  1. In Lightning → Receive, select Create invoice. The invoice form opens.
  2. Enter the amount in Sats or in the field for your configured fiat currency. An amount is required. Optionally add a Description.
  3. Select Create invoice. The app displays the invoice QR code, amount in sats, and fiat equivalent.
  4. Check the amount, then select Copy and send the invoice to the payer or paste it into the service's Lightning-invoice field. The payer can also scan the displayed QR code.

An invoice is single-use and eventually expires. It is not saved in a separate invoice list after you leave this view, so copy or share it first. If it expires or you no longer have it, create a new invoice. Check the transaction history before requesting another payment if the first payment's status is unclear.

If a service's withdrawal QR code is unsupported

Some services let you claim a payout by scanning an LNURL-Withdraw QR code. This receiving method is not currently supported by the BitBoxApp. Scanning or pasting that request into Send will not complete the withdrawal. Support for LNURL-Pay, which is also used by Lightning addresses, does not include LNURL-Withdraw.

Check whether the service lets you enter a Lightning address or supply a Lightning invoice instead. Use the corresponding receiving method above. If the service offers only LNURL-Withdraw, ask its support team about another payout method; generating a new request in the same format will not make it compatible with the BitBoxApp.

Satsback: use automatic payouts

Satsback offers automatic payouts to a Lightning address as an alternative to its withdrawal QR flow. You can use the address already shown in the BitBoxApp; no app setting or address change is needed.

  1. In the BitBoxApp, open Lightning → Receive and select Copy beneath your Lightning address.
  2. Sign in to Satsback and open My Account. Add the copied address for automatic payouts. Compare the full address with the one shown in the BitBoxApp before completing Satsback's verification and activation process.

Satsback sends automatic payouts when rewards become available. Check the payout status in Satsback and the received payment in your BitBoxApp Lightning transaction history. See Satsback's payout guidance for its current conditions and help if activation or a payout fails.

Set or change your Lightning address

You can choose a custom name for your reusable address. Changing the name deactivates the old address, so update any service using it for automatic payouts, as well as people or other places where you shared it.

Prepare to update saved payout addresses

You can change your Lightning address only once every 24 hours. Previous names remain reserved for this wallet but do not continue to receive payments while a different name is active.

  1. Open Settings → Advanced settings → Lightning settings and select Set Lightning address. The Set LNURL address screen opens.
  2. Enter your chosen name in LNURL username. The domain is shown beside the field. The app checks availability and displays This name is available when you can use it.
  3. Select Save. The app confirms that the address has been set and displays the complete address. Select Done, then update any saved payout destinations with the new address.

The same wallet can select a previously used name again, subject to the change restriction; another wallet cannot claim it. The BitBoxApp does not currently provide a way to transfer the name to a different Lightning wallet.

If a payment does not arrive

  • A service rejected your address or has not paid: check that it supports Lightning-address payouts, that the saved address matches Lightning → Receive, and that its payout conditions have been met. For Satsback, check that automatic payouts are activated and the rewards are available.
  • The payer used an old Lightning address: share the address currently shown in Receive Lightning and update any saved automatic-payout address. Alternatively, reselect the previous name if it belongs to this wallet and the change restriction allows it.
  • The invoice expired or was already paid: create a new invoice for a new payment. An already-paid invoice cannot receive another payment.
  • The payment is still processing: check the transaction history and the payer's status before asking them to send again.
  • The wallet is disabled: re-enable the same Lightning wallet.
  • The wallet is disconnected: check your internet connection and try again. If Spark is unavailable, wait for service recovery.

Contact BitBox Support

Contact BitBox Support if a confirmed payment does not appear or a supported receiving method repeatedly fails. Include the BitBoxApp version, mobile operating system, service name if applicable, approximate time, amount, current payment status, and exact non-sensitive error message.

Never send recovery words, backup contents, an optional passphrase, private keys, passwords, or PINs. Do not share a service's withdrawal QR code or payout link: it may allow someone else to claim the payout.

To make a payment instead, see Send a Lightning payment in the BitBoxApp.
