How to restore from your microSD card backup

Follow these steps to get your wallet up and running on your device.

  1. Open the BitBoxApp on your computer.
  2. Connect your new or reset BitBox02 to the computer.
  3. The app will detect the device. Confirm that the pairing code shown in the app matches the one on your BitBox02 screen.
  1. After pairing, you will see the "Setup your wallet" screen. Click on Restore from microSD card.
  1. Insert your backup microSD card into the BitBox02. Make sure the side with the text is facing up, matching the screen, and push gently until it clicks into place.
  1. The BitBoxApp will display a list of all backups found on the card. Select the correct backup you wish to restore and click Restore.
  1. Follow the prompts on your BitBox02 screen. You will need to confirm the restore action, the backup name, and the current date.
  1. The BitBox02 will require you to set a new device password. Follow the instructions on the device screen to create and confirm it.
  2. The BitBoxApp will show a "Backup Restored!" message. Read the important security reminders, remove the microSD card, and click Get started to access your wallet.

Restoring from a card with multiple backups

You can store backups from multiple different wallets on a single microSD card. During step 6 of the restore process, the BitBoxApp will show a list of all available backups on the card. It is important to carefully select the correct backup you wish to restore by checking its name, creation date, and unique ID before proceeding.

Do I need my old, broken device to restore my wallet?

No. The entire purpose of the backup is to restore your wallet without needing the original device. All you need is your backup microSD card and any BitBox02.

Will my optional passphrase accounts be restored automatically?

Do I need the password from my old device?
