Before you begin

Before installing the BitBoxApp on macOS:

  • Use a supported macOS version. Check the BitBoxApp operating system compatibility article before installing the BitBoxApp on macOS.
  • Download the BitBoxApp only from the official BitBoxApp download page.
  • Make sure you have permission to install applications on your Mac.
  • You do not need to connect your BitBox during installation.
  • You do not need your microSD backup or recovery words to install the BitBoxApp.
  • The installation process is the same for Intel-based Macs and Apple Silicon Macs.

The BitBoxApp will never ask for your recovery words during installation. Never enter your recovery words into a computer, smartphone, website, browser extension, password manager, cloud service, or AI chatbot.


Install the BitBoxApp on macOS

  1. Download the latest macOS DMG file from the official BitBoxApp download page.
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg file.
  3. Drag the BitBoxApp into the Applications folder.
  4. If macOS asks whether you want to replace an existing BitBoxApp version, select Replace.
  5. Open the BitBoxApp from the Applications folder.
  6. If macOS says that the BitBoxApp was downloaded from the internet, confirm the prompt only if you downloaded it from the official BitBoxApp download page.
  7. Connect and unlock your BitBox if you want to start using your wallet.

Installing the BitBoxApp and updating BitBox firmware are separate processes.

If a newer firmware version is available for your BitBox, the BitBoxApp will guide you through the firmware update after you connect and unlock your BitBox.
