Receiving Bitcoin is the first step to securing it with your BitBox02. A critical security step in this process is to verify your receiving address on the trusted screen of your hardware wallet. This ensures the address is genuinely yours and has not been tampered with by malware on your computer.
Before you start
This guide assumes you have already set up your BitBox02 with Sparrow Wallet. If you haven't, please follow our setup guide first: How to connect your BitBox02 with Sparrow Wallet
How to find and verify your receive address
For the best visibility of all your addresses, we recommend using the 'Addresses' tab to select your receiving address.
- Go to the Addresses tab in the left sidebar of Sparrow Wallet.

- You will see a long list of your Bitcoin addresses that are all generated from your recovery seed.

- Choose an unused address from the list.
- Double-click the address. This will automatically open the Receive tab and populate it with your chosen address.
- Alternatively, you can right-click the address and select Receive To.

- In the Receive window, click the Display Address button in the bottom right corner.

- Your BitBox02 will wake up and display the Bitcoin address on its screen. Carefully compare the address shown on your computer screen with the one shown on your BitBox02. They must match perfectly.
- Once you have confirmed the addresses match, tap the checkmark on your BitBox02. You can now safely copy the address from Sparrow Wallet and share it to receive your bitcoin.
For more details, the official Sparrow Wallet docs also provide information on receiving transactions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What should I do if the address on my computer and BitBox02 do not match?
STOP immediately. Do not use the address. A mismatch is a serious red flag that your computer may be compromised with malware. Please contact our support for assistance. The address shown on the BitBox02 screen is always the correct one.
Can I reuse a Bitcoin address?
While you technically can, it is strongly discouraged for privacy reasons. Reusing addresses allows others to more easily track your transaction history on the public blockchain. For best practice, you should use a fresh, new address for every transaction you receive.
Why use the 'Addresses' tab instead of going directly to the 'Receive' tab?
The Addresses tab gives you a complete overview of all your derived addresses. This is useful for advanced users and gives you more control. The Receive tab simply shows the next unused address in the sequence, but starting from the Addresses tab is a good habit for managing your UTXOs.
