The BitBox02 Multi edition supports a wide range of EVM-compatible blockchains, including Ethereum and various ERC-20 tokens. By integrating with MyEtherWallet (MEW)—a popular web-based Ethereum wallet—you can securely manage your assets while keeping your private keys offline.
This guide will walk you through setting up MEW with your BitBox02 and provide steps to recover assets sent over the wrong network.
Requirements
Before you begin, ensure you have the following:
- BitBox02 Multi edition hardware wallet
- MyEtherWallet (accessible via myetherwallet.com)
- Latest firmware installed on your BitBox02
- A small amount of the native token (e.g., ETH) for transaction fees
BitBoxBridge installed: Only necessary if you’re using a browser that does not support WebUSB (e.g., Firefox). For Chrome and Brave users, BitBoxBridge is not required.
Setting up MyEtherWallet and Connecting BitBox02
- To set up MyEtherWallet and connect your BitBox02, please follow our detailed guide:
Switching Between EVM Networks in MyEtherWallet
- MyEtherWallet allows you to interact with various EVM-compatible networks, such as Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain (BSC), and Polygon.
- To switch networks, click the network selector at the top right of the interface.
- A window will open where you can search for and select the desired EVM network.
- If anything remains unclear, please first refer to MEW’s guide: Change Networks on MEW Portfolio.
Sending and Receiving Assets
-
Receiving Assets:
- In MyEtherWallet, select the network you wish to receive assets on.
- Click on “Receive” to display your wallet address.
- Another window will open showing a QR code and the recipient address, which can be shared with the sender.
-
Sending Assets:
- Select Send from the menu on the left.
- Enter the recipient’s address and the amount you wish to send.
- Ensure you have a sufficient balance of the native token for transaction fees.
- Confirm the transaction details and approve the transaction on your BitBox02.
Recovering Coins Sent Over the Wrong Network
If you’ve accidentally sent assets to the wrong network (e.g., sending ETH to a BSC address), you can recover or directly swap them using MyEtherWallet:
- Connect your BitBox02 to MyEtherWallet as described above.
- Follow the detailed guide from MyEtherWallet regarding swaps or crosschain transfers: Swap your crypto with MEW Portfolio
Troubleshooting
MyEtherWallet doesn’t detect my BitBox02:
- Ensure BitBoxApp is closed to prevent connection conflicts.
- Verify that BitBoxBridge is installed and running if you’re using a browser that does not support WebUSB.
- Temporarily disable other wallet extensions like MetaMask, as they may interfere with MyEtherWallet’s connection to BitBox02.
Unable to switch networks in MyEtherWallet:
- Make sure the desired network is supported by MyEtherWallet.
- Ensure your BitBox02 supports the selected network.
Transaction not processing:
- Verify that you have enough of the native token to cover transaction fees.
- Check the network status for any congestion or issues.
